Holmgren: Right Choice To Fix Seahawks

Holmgren came to Seattle as a General Manager/Head Coach in 1999. He led the team to the franchises’ first Super Bowl berth in 2005 and has the most wins (86) by a coach in team history. Holmgren helped changed the culture of the organization and made the team relevant for the first time since the mid-80s. But in 2008, Seattle finished 4-12; after that (and the nine years before that) the 61 year-old said goodbye to the Seattle Seahawks, the fans, and the NFL. Holmgren’s departure opened the door for Jim Mora Jr. to coach the team. Now, Holmgren wants back in. Could he go to Cleveland? The rumor mill also thinks maybe Holmgren might want to run the Buffalo Bills.

I’m not buying that! I say, let Mike Holmgren run the franchise. Sure Holmgren’s general manager resume has its disappointments. He struck out a few times on first round picks DE Lamar King (1999) and OL Chris McIntosh (2000). But, Holmgren drafted RB Shaun Alexander (2000); Alexander still holds the franchise record for rushing yards (9,429). Holmgren also picked OL Steve Hutchinson (2001), Jerramy Stevens (2002) and Koren Robinson (2001); all three had large roles with the team.

Plus, Holmgren traded for quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and turned him into the best quarterback the organization has had since Dave Krieg. Why not bring back one of the man who helped build the Seahawks into a Super Bowl contender? The coach knows talent.  With Tim Ruskell now out (and of the Holmgren’s way) as President and General Manager it might be time to pull the trigger on ole faithful. Holmgren is the right choice to bring the team back to prominence. The man is rested, he has regrouped, and he’s ready to fix some teams problems; it might as well be the Seahawks.
