Amid GM Departure Seahawks Get Ready For 49ers

On Thursday, Seahawks General Manager and President resigned; on the teams website, he acknowledged the rebuilding process “didn’t happen quick enough.”  We’ll keep tabs on the search and see what direction the Seahawks ultimately decide to go in.

Let’s switch gears and talk about Seattle’s (4-7) next game against the San Francisco 49ers (5-6). Both teams are coming off wins; Seattle beat the Rams 27-17, the 49ers beat the Jaguars 20-3. San Francisco already beat Seattle in Week 2 at their place 20-10. In that game, Matt Hasselbeck was hit by LB Patrick Willis in the back right before halftime. The team eventually scored to make it a 13-10 game, but struggled to muster a comeback. For Seattle, this game is about the win but make no mistake the Seahawks are looking for some payback.  Will Seattle get it? This game should be very close and very competitive. San Francisco (20.7/g) and Seattle (20.3/g) are both getting similiar production on offense, but the 49ers have the edge on defense.  Mike Singletary’s bunch is only giving up 19.4 points per game to an opponent (11th), on the flip side, Seattle is giving up 22.7 points per game to the opponent (20th). The numbers favor the 49ers, but as I said before, some stats can be overrated.

I’m sure 49ers RB Frank Gore will have a good game but he won’t rush for 200 plus yards like he did in Week 2. Gore will probably get a touchdown run and I can see TE Vernon Davis catching a touchdown pass from the resurgent QB Alex Smith. Outside of a field goal or two, I can’t see the Seahawks defense giving up much more then that; remember the game is at Qwest field which means Aaron Curry and company will be ready.

The Seahawks offense isn’t the Saints but they can move the ball with Justin Forsett and shouldn’t have a problem throwing the pigskin against a suspect 49ers secondary. Julius Jones (bruised lung) might start but how much he will play is anybody’s guess. Either he or Forsett will score on the ground, and I think Matthew Hasselbeck will throw a couple touchdowns. Throw in an Orlando Mare’ field goal and you have a 24-20 Seattle win.
