Seahawks Hit Rock Bottom In Loss To Bucs

Losing to a 1-12 team in your own crib is inexcusable and downright unexceptable even for Seattle! 24-7 Bucs? Is that right? How could that happen? At home no less! Let the fire sale begin! It’s time to forget about how close the Seahawks are to being called a contender and start thinking about how to fix the team.  The rebuilding process is not going to take one year or two like the current players, fans, and ownership maybe hoped for. No, it is going to take longer because for some apparent reason Seattle is not winning games they should now; they just aren’t clicking.

I don’t know if the players are thinking about Christmas or thinking about the off-season or tuned out their coach; I’m not on the team or a towel boy! What I do know is the Seahawks, despite their drama, should have beat the Bucs. Then again when you turn the ball over five times; maybe not! (Photo Courtesy: Ted S. Warren/AP).

Amid the choas, there is a light at the end of the tunnel Hawk fans. The season is almost over and the time to fix the squad is right around the corner. Plus, Seattle has two first round picks in the 2010 Draft. That should help kick-start the turnaround. There is no doubt in my mind the team will not package those picks for a higher selection as previously suggested. Seattle has too many holes to take that kind of gamble. We will talk about the draft later, but I suspect the club will look hard at the best offensive lineman position and maybe take an impact running back next April. How could you not start anywhere else then the offensive line and in the backfield? You don’t have to be on the sidelines to understand a below average running attack makes the team one dimensional. Quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck can’t get the receivers the ball if he’s on his back or running for his life.  The new Seahawks general manager, not named Mike Holmgren, will most likely examine those two positions and look to improve elsewhere. Whoever the club chooses to retool the team, they will know what to do or else they wouldn’t have the job to begin with, right?

I think the Seahawks will be back in the playoffs next year, but that is what I thought this year! Seattle’s loss to the Bucs on Sunday at the very least tells Hawks brass that, despite all the injury problems, the team needs more depth and talent on the roster. What happened on Sunday, losing to a rookie quarterback led 1-12 team simply won’t cut it. Are wholesale changes on the horizon?  After the embarrassing loss on Sunday, I’d say chances are good that change is coming to a team that has hit rock bottom.
