Twins Great Harmon Killebrew Dies at 74

Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew has passed away this morning at the age of 74 in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Killebrew was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus last December.  He had recently just announced last week he would no longer seek treatment for the incurable cancer.  Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984, Killebrew finished his career with 573 HR’s while batting just .256 with a .376 OBP, .509 SLG. and a .884 OPS.

Kevin Seitzer: Royals’ Professor of the Hitting Arts

Kevin Seitzer broke into the major leagues in 1986 with the Kansas City Royals and immediately established himself as extremely proficient with a baseball bat in his hands.  In his 1987 rookie season he amassed 207 hits and batted over .300.  He went on, over an eleven-year career, to hit .295, including six full seasons with KC.  He was selective and disciplined at the plate and was the last Royals’ player to work 100 walks in a single season.

Winter Baseball Fanfest Evokes Dreams of Summer

As a winter storm took aim on the Kansas City area, baseball-starved fans descended on the Overland Park Convention Center this past weekend for the fourth annual Royals Fanfest   event.  The dire forecast didn’t dampen fan enthusiasm as they seized the opportunity to get a preview of their 2011 “Boys in Blue.”

Going, Going, Gone: Greinke Dealt to Milwaukee

Bob Feller Dies at 92

Pitching legend Bob Feller has died at 92.

  Bob Feller was a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians for 18 seasons and is one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball history. He ended his career with 266 victories and 2,581 strikeouts, and led the American League in strikeouts seven times and bases on balls eight times. He pitched three no-hit games and shares the major league record with 12 one-hitters. Feller was the first pitcher to win 20 or more games before the age of 21. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, his first year of eligibility.
