Kevin Seitzer: Royals’ Professor of the Hitting Arts

Kevin Seitzer broke into the major leagues in 1986 with the Kansas City Royals and immediately established himself as extremely proficient with a baseball bat in his hands.  In his 1987 rookie season he amassed 207 hits and batted over .300.  He went on, over an eleven-year career, to hit .295, including six full seasons with KC.  He was selective and disciplined at the plate and was the last Royals’ player to work 100 walks in a single season.

Winter Baseball Fanfest Evokes Dreams of Summer

As a winter storm took aim on the Kansas City area, baseball-starved fans descended on the Overland Park Convention Center this past weekend for the fourth annual Royals Fanfest   event.  The dire forecast didn’t dampen fan enthusiasm as they seized the opportunity to get a preview of their 2011 “Boys in Blue.”

Various Royals’ players appeared on the main stage during the event to be interviewed by a Fanfest host and field questions from the audience.  It certainly wasn’t all business, however, as Luke Hochevar and Mitch Maier led teams of attendees in an entertaining game of Royals’ Feud at one point on Saturday.  The main stage provided a place for fans to sit and relax, get a more personal look at the players, and possibly grab some

Going, Going, Gone: Greinke Dealt to Milwaukee

It was inevitable.  Zack Greinke wanted out of Kansas City.  And Royals’ management was all in for 2013.  So it was no surprise when word came today that KC had dealt their ace to the    Milwaukee Brewers.  Along with Greinke went shortstop Yuni Betancourt and $2M in cash.  The Betancourt loss is considered by many Royals’ fans to be addition by subtraction so it   should not be unexpected that the Brewers wanted some monetary assistance to help with his $4M in 2011 salary.  In return, the Royals get a

Royals Take What They Can Get

The signings of Jeff Francoeur and Melky Cabrera have unleashed a tidal wave of despair and disdain.  Royals’ blogs and message boards are full of tirades against the acquisitions.  Fans outside Kansas City mock GM Dayton Moore and his affinity for Braves’ leftovers.  It’s hard to find any positive response to the arrival of “Frenchy” and the “Melk-man” to the KC baseball scene.

There’s good reason.  Royals’ fans, wearied of empty promises that have only yielded

Much Ado about Greinke

Royals’ fans wait with trepidation as the MLB winter meetings get under way this week.  They watched GM Dayton Moore trade beloved outfielder, David DeJesus, to Oakland just a few short weeks ago.  Now rumors abound that mound ace Zack Greinke could be the next Royal targeted for a change of address.  The DeJesus trade and the speculation swirling        around Zack leaves Royals’ faithful wondering if they should ever purchase a player jersey again.

But Moore is faced with a rock-and-a-hard-place dilemma.  The ever
