Reds acquire Latos for Volquez, Alonso and others

The Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres have announced a five-player deal involving pitchers Mat Latos for Edinson Volquez and top 10 prospects Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger and Yasmani Grandal. Alonso has been rumored in trade talks the past few weeks with Reds GM Walt Jocketty reportedly talking with the Athletics, Blue Jays, Indians and Rays for a deal involving the young prospect for a pitcher to throw in the rotation.

Reds Joey Votto Wins NL MVP over Pujols

Joey Votto won his first National League MVP yesterday taking 31 of 32 first place votes.  The St. Louis Cardinals Albert Pujols and the Colorado Rockies Carlos Gonzalez finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Votto finished the year batting .324 and finished 2nd in batting average behind Carlos Gonzalez at .336.   He finished 3rd in homeruns in the National League behind Adam Dunn

Sparky Anderson Passes Away at 76

Former Major League Baseball Manager Sparky Anderson died Thursday from complication from dimentia.

Anderson played as a 25 year-old for the 1959 Phillies as a second baseman. As a manager he compiled a lifetime 2194 – 1834 win/loss record including five pennants and three world series titles. How much time does Griffey have left in Major League Baseball?

Rumors were swirling Monday in Seattle and around Major League Baseball that Seattle Mariners favorite “Kid”, Ken Griffey Jr., may not have much more time left in his career.  A Tacoma News Tribune story published Monday stated, “He could lose his job as the left-handed designated hitter within the week. Reds Sign Cuban Star Aroldis Chapman
