Boxing Great ‘Smokin’ Joe Frazier Passes Away at 67
Joe Frazier passed away yesterday at the age of 67 after his battle with liver cancer. ‘Smokin’ Joe Frazier won the Gold Medal in the 1964 Olympics in the Heavyweight division of boxing and soon thereafter turned pro. He held the title of World Heavyweight Champion from 1968-1973 and was 32-4-1 with 27 knockouts as a professional. He was the first fighter to beat Muhammad Ali in what was called the “Fight of the Century” and would face Ali three times over his career losing the second and third fights. A huge loss to the boxing community, Frazier was considered one of the greatest heavyweight warriors by HOF boxing trainer Freddie Roach in what may have been one of the greatest eras of heavyweight boxers.
