New Orleans Saints Slammed with Penalties
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has come down hard on the New Orleans Saints for their “bounty” program that paid Saints defensive players to hurt key players for the opposing team.
Drew Brees breaks Dan Marino’s NFL single-season passing record
As if Drew Brees didn’t have enough reasons for people to root for him in New Orleans, he breaks Dan Marino’s NFL passing record for yards thrown in a single-season last night against the Atlanta Falcons.
New Orleans Saints Sign Darren Sproles
Just when Saints fans began freakin’ out about Reggie Bush headed out of New Orleans, the Saints lay some of the questions to rest. The New Orleans Saints have reached a deal with former San Deigo Chargers running back Darren Sproles. NFL Network reports that the deal is a four-year deal worth
Saints Reggie Bush Headed to Miami?
In a trade that not too many saw coming, Reggie Bush seems to be headed to Miami in a trade between the New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that both teams have agreed to terms on the trade, but the deal is still is contingent on a new contract being worked out with the Dolphins. Glazer also reported, “Bush is also still deciding whether he wants to take the deal.”
Most fans of the Saints and around the league figured the relationship between Bush and New Orleans would be done with the 1st round pick of Alabama running back Mark Ingram. Bush also had a good idea it would be done, tweeting about it being a good run with the Saints after the pick.
New Orleans Saints Reggie Bush out with leg injury
Former USC great and New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush is being reported to have a fractured fibula after going down in Monday Night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. He was in obvious pain trying to get off the field under his own power. He was then helped to the sideline and carted to the locker room. Bush is said to be out four to six weeks with the injury. The Saints beat the Niners 25-22.
Pierre Thomas should get more time in the backfield with Bush being out and possibly even more touches at the goal line. Fantasy owners with Thomas are happy to see him getting more time while Bush owners are searching quickly for another option out of the backfield.
Saints are Ready for Monday Night Football
Sitting at 10-0, Monday night’s showdown with the New England Patriots is by no means a must win for the New Orleans Saints. They are 5 games ahead of their nearest division rival, the Atlanta Falcons. A playoff berth is all but guaranteed at this point. A loss to the Patriots wouldn’t be devastating in the pursuit of home-field advantage because the Pats play in the AFC. However, tonight’s clash between the Saints and Patriots is the kind of matchup football fans dream of, regardless of rooting interest.
The Saints have ascended to heights unknown in their history this season. The team has amassed 10 wins before the start of December. They are three wins away from from setting the team record for wins in a season, and are in a position to legitimately think about going undefeated.
The Patriots are back to being the Patriots. After a slow start, the offense is clicking and looking reminiscent of the 2007 Patriots. Were it not for a brain cramp by Pats’ Coach Bill Belichick two weeks ago against the Colts, the Patriots would be riding a five game winning streak. It is safe to say the Patriots are the toughest challenger left on the schedule before the playoffs.
Keys to the Game:
1. Slow down Welker and Moss. The Saints are hurting at cornerback. Starters Tracy Porter and Jabari Greer are injured and are listed as questionable for the game as is nickel back Randall Gay. The Saints must find a way to keep Moss and Welker contained as much as possible.
2. Run, baby, Run. The Saints currently have the fourth best rushing attack in the league. The team is averaging 154 yards a game on the ground. Their 4.8 yards per carry are tied for third best in the league. The Saints’ three headed rushing attack may be down to two as Reggie Bush is listed as questionable on the injury report after missing last week’s game with knee issues.
3. Turnovers. No team has forced more turnovers this year than the New Orleans Saints. No team has turned the ball over less than the New England Patriots. The Saints’ offense is potent enough that it doesn’t need a short field to score points, but it always helps. Likewise, the Saints must be more careful with the football than it has been in recent weeks.
