The Hejduk Effect

Make no mistake about it; coming into the final twenty game stretch of the NHL season following the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, the Colorado Avalanche will be needing the services of their veteran winger Milan Hejduk. The problem being that the seasoned old sniper has already missed nineteen games this season, mostly related to ongoing knee issues.

Besides the entire team fighting to stay atop the very tight Northwest Division, we’ve got three youngsters fighting to stay in the top ten in rookie scoring, players fighting to stay in the lineup, and can you believe it, actual knockdown fisticuffs on the ice. It’s almost as if Ian “Lappy” Laperriere himself were back in town.

Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association

If you’ve been watching Colorado Avalanche hockey this season, you’re undoubtedly aware of the newly established Alumni Association which will be honoring several players from the 1996 and 2001 Stanley Cup years as part of the 10-year anniversary of the Pepsi Center.

To date, the club has announced and honored five great players from those exciting Avalanche hockey years. Included in the list are Joe Sakic, known the world over as “Super Joe”, Defensemen Alexei Gusarov and Uwe Krupp, and wingers Shjon Podein, and Mike Keane.
